"After my SI joint injury, my activities were limited to the bare necessities. Today I feel great thanks to the iFuse."

Background

In January of 2011, while working as a nurse, Susan was injured while assisting a patient. “I knew right away that something was wrong because of the amount of pain I was experiencing.” Susan initially reported a sharp, aching pain which progressed over time to a burning and throbbing pain in her buttocks and the right side of her groin. Susan was monitored by a nurse practitioner and physician at the hospital where she was employed. She received a referral for physical therapy but when her symptoms did not improve she was referred to a pain management physician. Susan’s pain doctor administered a diagnostic SI joint injection that provided Susan with pain relief for a couple of hours. The following week her pain doctor began treating her with a series of steroid injections that continued over the course of 15 months but this provided little relief. Susan continued to look for solutions, attempting osteopathic manipulation and SI joint radiofrequency ablation but she experienced no relief with these treatments. Susan also tried acupuncture, which although relaxing, did not provide any relief. Over the next year, she received monthly SI joint injections that temporarily relieved her pain. She could no longer perform simple tasks such as grocery shopping and was no longer the independent and active person she used to be. Two years after her injury Susan was desperate to find a long term solution. She discovered the iFuse procedure and contacted the nurse at SI-BONE who provided her with a list of iFuse trained surgeons in her area. Soon thereafter she met with a trained surgeon who recommended that Susan consider the iFuse procedure.

Update

Susan underwent the iFuse surgery in July 2013. Within a couple of weeks she felt her SI joint pain dissipate and within months Susan began to resume many of her normal activities. With her surgeon’s approval, she returned to the crisp, clear air of the New Hampshire Mountains to enjoy some of her favorite winter activities. Susan has her life back and is feeling good again. She is very pleased that she found and was treated with the iFuse Implant System.
